I purchased the Uniden GMR-1838 two-pack radio for our use while on vacation. Having had some experience with similar "charging stand" type products, I opted to not use the battery pack, but to use the easily purchased batteries. I like that option. Although we have not used these radios for vacation they have been extremely useful for everyday trips to Walmart, etc. They are simple and almost "idiot-proof". One mile was about the max range for our urban area. A good investment for the cost.
